Software re-use

In terms of functionality there is a large overlap between evselect and the FTOOLS FTOOLSfselect, FTOOLSfltime, and FTOOLSXselect. These tools, however, do not meet the envisaged performance requirements and do not make use of the SAS infrastructure (DAL, parameter handling, etc.) It is therefore, recommended to code evselect newly from scratch. The selector part shall be based on a recently developed prototype code which has proven to be very run-time efficient. The product extraction stage is not believed to be time-critical and it is anticipated that code from the extractor part in FTOOLSXselect can be re-used to some TBD extent.
